Privacy policy
Effective October 19, 2026. Get FIREd is a private app run by TJ for his own household. It isn't sold, offered to the public or reachable from the internet.
What it collects
- When you connect an account through Plaid: the account's name, type and last four digits, balances, transactions, and for investment accounts, what's held and its trades.
- What you add yourself: labels, notes, answers to its questions, statements you drop in.
- Never your bank password. You type it on your bank's own screen inside Plaid; this app only receives a read-only key. Nothing here can move money.
How it's used
Only to show the household its own money: balances, spending, net worth and retirement planning. It is never sold, shared for marketing or used for advertising.
Who else sees it
- Plaid connects to your bank and passes the data along. Plaid's own privacy policy is at plaid.com/legal.
- Anthropic (Claude) reads transaction descriptions and amounts to sort them into categories. It gets no account numbers or passwords. Anthropic's handling is covered by its privacy policy at anthropic.com/legal/privacy.
- Dropbox stores the nightly backup, encrypted on the Mac before it leaves, so Dropbox can't read it.
- No one else.
Where it's kept, and how it's protected
On one Mac with an encrypted disk. The app is reachable only from devices signed in to the household's private network (Tailscale), never from the public internet, and only over an encrypted connection. Plaid's read-only keys stay on the Mac and never reach a browser.
How long it's kept, and deleting it
Data from a connected account is kept while it's connected, as the household's financial history. You can ask TJ at any time to disconnect your account (which revokes the key at Plaid right away) or to delete everything that came from it. Deletion is done within 30 days, normally the same day. Encrypted backups age out on their own within 24 months.
